Who owns Facebook Commerce?

With the ability to sell products through facebook, the question that many companies will be forced to address is “Who owns Facebook Commerce?”.   In several organizations we have come across one group that owns social media and another group that owns e-commerce.   There is no one right answer to who should own this initiative, but you are best served by not viewing Facebook simply as a “new sales channel”.  Facebook has the ability to make or break your brand based on how you initiate and engage in conversations about your company and your products.   Brand building is now a dialogue, not a messaging campaign.  It’s all about the conversation. Commerce will follow, or not.

Brand awareness leads to consumer action and conversion if the consumer is interested and motivated. Social media is one of many avenues in which to reach, communicate and inspire consumers to action, which is the ultimate goal.
